It can be overwhelming starting a blog for business. You have so much to say and your mind is spinning with ideas. There are several things that you need to get started blogging for your business. Buy Your Domain Name:
Never allow anyone or any business to buy your domain name for you. Always have control over your own domain name.
What is a domain name? It is the address that your site is going to be called. For instance, the domain name for this site is Connecting Local Business. You can choose to buy your existing business name so that it matches your local business ie: Sally’s Flowers or Sally’s Flower Shop. People will identify your offline business with your online business.
I recommend Go Daddy for safe domain purchases. I have used them exclusively for 10 years or more and never had an issue.
Sign up for Hosting
Hosting is what makes your website live on the internet. Your Site is “hosted” by a company on their servers. I use Hostgator because they are affordable and have a very good reputation. Their incidence on being down is minimal which means that your website is not down either. You can choose to buy your own hosting elsewhere, through Hostgator or Connecting Local Business can host your site for you for a nominal monthly fee.
Start Thinking About How Your Want Your Site to Look
Do you love a lot of pictures? Begin finding great photos of your products. If you do not have any, start taking beautiful pictures.
Do you prefer smaller photos and more text on your site? Text and content is loved by the search engines. So having a balance of both is recommenced.
Look around at sites and maybe mark a few that you like. Together we can come up with a theme that works well for your business.
Get a Notebook and Start Jotting Down Ideas on What You Would Love to Talk About on Your Site
Do you have new products getting ready to hit your store for the season? Maybe you would love to teach people how to use your products. What types of questions do people ask you about your business that you can explain online.
All of these ideas can become topics for your post and pages on your new site.
