Unless you live under a rock these days, I am sure you have heard of social media, but you may be confused as to what social media entails. Social media is a broad term for using social networking sites as a media outlet. There are many social sites today that fall under this umbrella. Some of them I know you have heard of and probably use for personal use. Facebook; Twitter; LinkedIn; Instagram: Pinterest; Tumblr and YouTube are some of the more well known sites. But while you may or may not use some of these personally, if you are not using them for business, you may be missing out on business you should be capturing.
Adding some social media accounts to your small business is a smart move, depending on the type of business you own. There are billions of people that are on social media accounts at any given time and while you do not have access to those billions, you have to realize that consumers are changing the way they shop and they way the research products. Everything is at your fingertips now. I am sure you use the internet to purchase your own inventory. Consumers do the same.
Having a few of social media accounts where you can interact with your direct customers is a smart move. You are getting them where they spend hour upon hours each day and you will immediately be in front of them when they are ready to buy. Social media accounts also allow you to show your own personality and customers want to see that. More and more people are done with faceless corporations and are returning to smaller business. This is where you can make a difference in your business.
Start with one or two accounts and get used to posting on a regular basis, growing your followers and interacting. Then you can add a few others and decide where you get the most bang for your time.
