People often ask me about keywords and how to use them in their business. After all, they are helpful and rather important for SEO and the visitor to your website or social media too!

It’s important to understand the use of this invaluable tool and apply it properly to your social accounts, website, blog posts, etc.

I’m working on a new e-book and other pieces to help you break it down and use them properly, but in the interim, here’s an easy explanation.

Quick Tip for Finding Keywords for Your Business

  • First, you need to know what you want to be ranked for. In this example in my graphic, it could be a service that you’re offering

You always start with the most highly searched term. For example, digital marketing. But that’s too broad of a term to use exclusively. It would be very hard to rank on searches.

  • So we need to break it down even more by using terms with 2 to 3 words, such as “learn digital marketing” or “digital marketing course”. You can use this level in copy but you may not get the best results.
  • Let’s break it down even further into more targeted “long tail keywords “. These are more niche-oriented and will get you better results. They are usually 4-5 words or so.

Using my example image again, we can search or use terms such as “digital marketing course at home” or “digital marketing course for beginners”.

Here’s an even better one – “digital marketing course for Instagram” or “digital marketing course for entrepreneurs”. You see where I’m going with this.

  • The longer the search term is the more concentrated results you’re going to get.

These are the type of keywords that you want to use in your copy. These are the type of words potential clients will be using to search for the answer to their problem.

Getting them to click on your site is your focus at this point. Once they visit – Conversion. That is all in your copywriting.

Wrap-Up and Recommendation

I hope this helps you learn how to find keywords for your business. I recommend researching keywords every few months as things do change. New terms come up. Your business may change. Use a spreadsheet for tracking where you use the key terms for ease of use.
